How to create and load Ready Player Me avatars

Ready Player Me is a web platform that allows users to create custom avatars.

Vinyl Reality supports loading both half and full-body avatars downloaded from the Ready Player Me platform in the .GLB file format. A Ready Player Me account is optional, and not required to create or download an avatar asset.

Using full-body avatars does not require full-body tracking, and works with just the tracking data from the headset and both controllers.

Two types of avatars can be created using the Ready Player Me platform.

Full-body avatars visualize the entire body while half-body avatars only visualize a head, torso and hands.

Depending on which type of avatar you want to create you have to use different web pages:

Once you have created your avatar, click the Next or Enter Hub button in the top right corner.

If you wish to use the avatar without creating a Ready Player Me account simply select continue without signup and copy the provided URL into your browser to download the GLB file.

If you have an account, you can download your avatars from the hub, by following these steps:

  1. Select My Avatars from the menu
  2. Click the button with the 3 dots in the top right corner of the avatar you want to download
  3. Select Download avatar .glb

After downloading the avatar’s GLB file copy it into the following directory:

C:\Users\YourUsername\Documents\Vinyl Reality\Avatars\

After the files have been copied to the Avatars folder, start Vinyl Reality, and in the main menu open the Avatar panel using the navigation menu at the bottom.

All of the GLB files copied into the Avatars directory will be added to the start of the list of available avatars.

Simply select the avatar you want to use and load an environment!
